The Matéria Low Board series is characterised by its unusual dimensions and aura of tranquillity.

When taking a closer look, however, its nearly monochromatic appearance is revealed as an interplay of the porous travertine stone and smoothly finished wood. Matéria evokes an intuitive urge to touch the surfaces, to feel the natural textures.

Originally a purely experimental design, it was expanded into a trio in cooperation with ClassiCon.

Matéria is available in three different sizes and currently two surfaces. Individually or in combination, the handcrafted low boards rightfully take centre stage due to their materiality and reveal the sensual effect of reductionism.

Christian Haas was born in 1974 in Erlangen, Germany. He founded his own studio in 2000, just one year after graduating with a degree in industrial design. Since then, he has been designing products in various disciplines, from furniture to lamps, porcelain and glass. In his design approach, Christian Haas combines simplicity and elegance. His sense for aesthetics is characterised by a harmony of sobriety, usefulness, emotionality, durability and uniqueness.

With his studio, the industrial designer works for international brands such as Rosenthal, Villeroy & Boch, 2016/ Arita, Karimoku New Standard , Tecta and Classicon, as well as for selected design galleries. Over the years, Haas’ work has been honoured with several awards, such as the Red Dot Design Award and the Elle Decoration International Design Award. His most remarkable work includes the Ropes edition of lamps, which is part of the permanent collection of the Vitra Design Museum.

Christian Haas lives and works in Porto, Portugal.

In the early 1970s, Eileen Gray began to collaborate with Zeev Aram to develop her furniture and lamps for series production. In 1973 she signed a worldwide contract with Aram Designs, London, to bring her designs into production for the first time. ClassiCon produces and sells the Eileen Gray Collection as worldwide licensee of Aram Designs Ltd, London.

Each individual piece in the collection is indelibly marked and numbered consecutively.

The ClassiCon signature provides a guarantee that only high-grade materials and methods are used in production - meeting all ecological requirements - and that every piece of furniture has passed strict quality control. ClassiCon's logo offers the assurance that each limited edition is an authentic replica of the original, made with the consent of the rights holders.
