High-quality carpets based on designs created by established talents such as Verner Panton: that’s the philosophy of DESIGNERCARPETS by Teppich Drechsle. Each rug is handmade exclusively for the company’s owner and managing director Stefan Drechsle. Working closely together with international designers and architects, DESIGNERCARPETS produces carpets and kilim rugs for private individuals, luxury shipyards and fashion labels.
The workshops are located in the Orient and the Far East with the principal production site in Kathmandu, Nepal, where the rugs are knotted by hand. "This style of rug knotting is a very traditional production method. Centuries-old expertise about traditional manufacturing techniques is uniquely combined here with exclusive, high-quality materials and a unique flexibility with regard to colours, patterns, shapes and dimensions", Drechsle says.
The family business has a zero-tolerance policy towards child labour and is strongly committed to respectful and mindful dealings with all its co-workers. This commitment was recognized and rewarded by the attribution of the GoodWeave certification. (The GoodWeave standard for the carpet industry is designed to address issues inter-related to child labour that include adult labour working conditions, fundamental human rights and environmental impacts.)

Stefan Drechsle is a publicly appointed and sworn expert for oriental and flat-weave rugs from the Chamber of Industry and Commerce of Hochrhein-Bodensee. He writes appraisals for private individuals and insurance companies, performs structural and laboratory analyses to identify materials and coloring agents, teaches seminars, and delivers lectures for advanced training.
His thorough expertise acquired and developed through decades of involvement with carpets and rugs has an invaluable impact on DESIGNERCARPETS’s outstanding production.
