The impressive Table Gun lamp by Philippe Starck is modelled after the infamous Kalashnikov AK47. Starck is known for his witty reinterpretation of everyday objects and his sustainable and qualitative lighting designs.

This design shows Starck’s commitment. Table Gun draws attention to the global arms trade. With a posh gold plated finish in 18K gold, Table Gun emphasizes the sad connection between war and money. The black shade signifies death and the crosses inside the shade are to remind us of our dead ones. The Kalashnikov AK47 symbolizes the responsibility of the East. Etched around the base is "happiness is a hot gun," a play on the similarly-named Beatles song.

20% of the gross sales from the Gun Collection are donated by Flos to the "Fratelli dell'uomo" a human rights organisation working for the growth of local communities and their social structure in underdeveloped countries.

About the AK47 Starck has this to say:

"Light, functional, affordable and elegant, with over 100 million copies officially produced to date, the Kalachnikov is one of the industrial design success-stories of our age.

Mr Kalachnikov has never received any royalties for this design. He often complains about it.

Thus, I intend to pay him a commission for the sales of the model that replicates his invention. Poor guy. The remainder will be donated to "Medicins sans frontieres", though sometimes I wonder why.

FLOS was founded by Dino Gavina and Cesare Cassina in 1962 in order to deliver contemporary lighting in accordance with their modern furniture designs. Their main guiding principles were "collaboration with the most inventive international designers and courage to be daring and provocative, yet uphold the fundamental principles of design". These guidelines are still relevant and can be traced in the entire Flos collection up until the company's latest designs.

The result is a catalogue filled with iconic lighting objects that have changed the concept of illumination itself. Testament to this are the numerous awards, critical accolades and inclusions in all the major permanent collections and design museums around the world.
