By reinterpreting traditional still life motives, Kristine Five Melvær tells the story of a changing shape. "Soft bowl" was conceived as a two-in-one reversible bowl which can be used to create different landscapes to storage, present and eat fruit. These are simple yet essential actions that tie people together across differences.
Norwegian Designer Kristine Five Melvær, born in 1984 investigates the subject of object communication, bridging the disciplines of product design and graphic design. She focuses on the communicative potentials of objects as a means to create emotional bonds between object and user. By searching for the sensual essence of phenomena, she translates these qualities into sensuous objects with a Scandinavian simplicity.
In 2012, Melvær launched eight series of objects exhibited in Stockholm, New York, Oslo, London and Tokyo. One of her Ray prototypes was acquired by the VitraHaus exhibition.
In 2013, Melvær exhibits her work in Stockholm, Milan, New York, Los Angeles, Oslo, Paris and London. In Milan Melvær exhibited four new series of prototypes at SaloneSatellite.
When objects work is the vision of its director Beatrice de Lafontaine. The Belgian company produces and distributes exclusive objects designed by leading designers and architects whose work shares a preoccupation with basic forms, immaculate function and a timeless idiom.
William Morris famously observed that one should "have nothing in your house which you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful". From its first collection shown at the Milan Furniture Fair in 2001, when objects work has pursued the principle that everyday objects can be useful whilst having aesthetic features.
In this manner they've commissioned designers to explore the theme of decorative art as superlative domestic equipment in the fullest and most challenging ways possible and to develop innovative manufacturing solutions where necessary. Most of the objects are hand-made with authentic materials & traditional craftsmanship.
