François Champsaur is a French interior architect/designer. He was born in Marseilles but has been based in Paris since the late '80s. His Mediterranean roots have influenced his work. He studied at the Ecole des beaux-arts and went on to train at the Ecole Nationale des Arts Décoratifs (ENSAD). In 1996, he started up his own interior design company.

From his earliest projects at the Maison Troisgros in Roanne and Café de l'Alma in Paris, François has displayed his ability to transform any space, considering each and every aspect from an architectural angle and with the finest detail. He intelligently reworks space, playing with light and volume, and compliments this with both elegant and contemporary furniture and fabrics.

One of François' specialities is to simultaneously develop two parallel activities: interior design and structural design. He has transformed luxury hotels (such as The Metropolitan, Paris and more recently a hotel in Miami), restaurants (Hotel-restaurant Troisgros in Roanne, Café de l'Alma in Paris) and homes using his own unique vision. He has also designed many private projects, several of which were for collectors of contemporary art.

His interest in furniture, clean lines, rhythm and harmony have led him to collaborate with many French and international interior design companies, such as First Time, Treca Interiors, Pouenat Ferronnier and HC28. He's worked on linen and carpet collections for prestigious French luxury brands such as D. Porthault and Toulemonde Bochart.

His creations echo the history and specifics of each house. For HC28, based in Beijing, François has imagined new product ranges inspired by traditional Chinese furnishings: lacquered finishes, round angles, geometrical forms and interlacing. By also taking responsibility for the artistic direction of the brand he has been able to create sensual and poetic designs, which have led to the opening of 22 stores across East Asia since 2008. For Pouenat Edition, he worked with geometric designs using metal: his furniture and lamps oscillate between folding, fluid or jagged lines, lacquers and brushed metals, for a sophisticated and precise effect, a result that is always refined and that has the imprint of elegance.

His work on The Metropolitan hotel, which was inaugurated in May 2009, was a true example of his talent for marrying sophistication and comfort. This new hotel seduces us with its stunning architecture and furnishings.

With both vision and discretion François Champsaur steps back, allowing the space to become a living creation.

The company Pouenat Ferronnier was founded in 1880, in Auvergne, France. It started out crafting wrought iron artistic creations and metalwork for buildings.
The company then decided to apply its know-how to the development and production of furniture and rapidly evolved into a proper furniture and lighting editor. Today, some of the most talented interior designers create for Pouenat: Tristan Auer, François Champsaur, Gilles & Boissier or, more recently, Charles Zana.
This specificity is Pouenat’s cornerstone: collections are designed by interior designers for their peers. Whether standard or bespoke, the products are always hand-made in France.
Today, Pouenat keeps on accompanying ornamental projects. Committed to excellence, the company is regularly commissioned to work on various prestigious projects such as the Plazza Athénée in Paris, the Balmain and Dior boutiques and even the Château de Versailles.
In 2009, the “Living Heritage Company” (Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant, or EPV) label, awarded by the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Employment recognizes and confirms the excellence and rarity of its know-how.
