The first lounge chair and matching coffee table by Stéphane Parmentier for Pouenat require a new finishing technique whereby the patinated brass at the edges of the structure is revived by careful manual rubbing.

Paris-based interior architect, designer and creative director Stéphane Parmentier started his career in the fashion world, where he would spend 17 years, working notably for Lanvin, Karl Lagerfeld, Givenchy (as director of women’s ready-to-wear and licenses) and as artistic director for Claude Montana and eventually launching his own label, which was distributed in Paris, New York and Japan.

When, in early 2000, Parmentier landed the dream job of redesigning the first and business class cabins for Singapore Airlines, he decided to expand into interior architecture and design, and opened his own agency in 2003.

In 2005, he ventured into the world of design, creating a collection of objects for Tools Galerie in Paris and his work reached a new level of maturity with the launch of his furniture collection for Ormond Editions, focusing primarily on beautiful varieties of stone (lava, marble, slate) while playing up the contrast between simplicity and sophistication; earning him a Wallpaper* Design Awards for "Best Launch" in 2012.

Since then he's been "Interior & Design Editor" for "Printemps de la Maison", successfully helping the Parisian department store to reposition itself as an upscale shopping destination for the home, was hired by Orange to plan and decorate their Paris HQ, by Hermès to create the scenography of its pop-up store in Paris and entrusted by Christofle with the redesign of its Madison Avenue Flagship Store, an endeavour that carried over to stores in London, Singapore, Shanghai, Milan, Miami, Lyon, Los Angeles, Tokyo, and elsewhere.

From 2013 to 2016, he also became creative director for the celebrated French silversmith Christofle, a role he currently holds for Italian luxury houses Giobagnara et Rabitti 1969.

As an interior designer Parmentier has also created sophisticated residential interiors for private apartments and villas in Paris, the French Riviera, London, Ibiza, Geneva, Miami and Mauritius, and continues to take on new projects in this area.

Finally, he has joined the prestigious team of French interior designers commissioned by the luxury metalworking house Pouenat which edited his first furniture and lighting pieces in 2019.

Through his design and projects, Stéphane Parmentier has developed a graphical, sensual style that envisions a rebirth of understated, vibrant luxury, where precious and raw materials coexist, and minimal lines combine with unique, artisanal, sophisticated techniques.

The company Pouenat Ferronnier was founded in 1880, in Auvergne, France. It started out crafting wrought iron artistic creations and metalwork for buildings.
The company then decided to apply its know-how to the development and production of furniture and rapidly evolved into a proper furniture and lighting editor. Today, some of the most talented interior designers create for Pouenat: Tristan Auer, François Champsaur, Gilles & Boissier or, more recently, Charles Zana.
This specificity is Pouenat’s cornerstone: collections are designed by interior designers for their peers. Whether standard or bespoke, the products are always hand-made in France.
Today, Pouenat keeps on accompanying ornamental projects. Committed to excellence, the company is regularly commissioned to work on various prestigious projects such as the Plazza Athénée in Paris, the Balmain and Dior boutiques and even the Château de Versailles.
In 2009, the “Living Heritage Company” (Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant, or EPV) label, awarded by the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Employment recognizes and confirms the excellence and rarity of its know-how.
