René Holten (born in 1961) is a graduate of institutions including the Maastricht Academy of Fine Arts and Design and the Design Academy Eindhoven. He has worked for the Dutch architect Wiel Arets as an architectural designer, and for Artifort as the head of product development (1993-1998).

In 1993, he decided to concentrate fully on product design, and he started up his own company, René Holten industrial design. Since then, he has concentrated primarily on the furniture and sanitary sector, giving presentations annually at major international fairs. His products have regularly won prizes over the years.

Holten is well-known for his high-quality products, which often have an elegant, timeless and innovative character. Environmentally-friendly production forms a starting point within his design philosophy.

René Holten on designing for Artifort "I feel privileged to be able to work as a designer for an internationally renowned company like Artifort. On the one hand, the designs I produce link up with the wonderful history of the company, while on the other hand they express my personal vision of the future of Artifort by giving shape to designs that are in keeping with current trends and hopefully remaining current well into the future. It is my goal to produce designs that are able to stand the test of time like so many other classics, and that will offer many customers a long period of enjoyment in their homes and other environments."

Art & Comfort is what Artifort, founded in 1890, stands for. And for timeless authoritative design that endures.

From Pierre Paulin and Geoffrey Harcourt to René Holten and Patrick Norguet; it's no accident that Artifort's delightful, exclusive furniture features in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art and the Centre Pompidou among others.

Artifort means top-quality design by top designers successfully joining form and function for more than 120 years.
