Compass Suspension Lamp

Compass is composed of cast aluminium, with rough incisions that allow the evacuation of the heat of the LEDs.

For this design Muller tapped into his experience in the computer and electronics industry. His understanding of cooling units has inspired him to use both the functional aspects of those components and their intriguing forms. He merged both into the design of this simple and clever suspension lamp.

The name refers to the shape obtained by an imaginary cross-section of the body of the structure: a compass card.

Releasing the heat of the LEDs is important to maintain the durability and the quality of the fixture.

Jos Muller is a Dutch product and lighting designer who graduated from Eindhoven Design Academy in 1981. Today he is the owner of his own design studio, following innovative ideas of lighting and design. The name of his company, Inventive Concepts & Design stands for his way of working in product development. Muller bases a product idea and concept development on the creation of inventive steps in use, design and construction.

"My goal is to create product portfolios based on the same core of an inventive idea, which I call "Platform Design". This process aim is to result in increasing product distinctiveness, cost effectivity, product life cycle and product quality, and at the same time to decrease development risks and costs, product launch costs and marketing costs. Quasar is a Dutch manufacturer of design lighting fixtures. At the beginning, it was exclusive in producing their models in 3 finishes: rough aluminium, polished aluminium or bronze. This made the collection timeless. The choice of material determined the use of the item, either in a classical or a modern decor.

By the late 90's Quasar started to collaborate with the Belgian lighting designer Jan Pauwels and his remarkable and exclusive artistic designs perfectly complemented the collection.

In 1999, Quasar presented its new collection at the International Furniture Fair in Cologne which proved to be a milestone in the evolution of the brand.

Quasar's international recognition has been growing steadily and the company still strives towards the production of exclusive, creative and inventive designs.

It attracts designers who want to share their innovative ideas with the know-how of the company in order to develop new creations that fit into Quasar's concept.
